Working anywhere in the world is a luxury that many of us can afford to enjoy these days. In fact, I am fortunate enough to be writing this while in Hong Kong travelling for PakMag and MOB Magazine.
When you love what you do, you want to stay connected no matter where you go (and even when on holidays). So here are my favourite APPS that enable me to do this, of course, if the Wifi is working in my destination!
Dropbox
This handy software not only backs up all my videos and photos taken on my phone from the day every time I am connected to WIFI, it is also a place where I can access all my important files that I have saved in Dropbox, and my team can also share files with me. This means that if my computer is stolen or broken, I can use any computer and still work.
Google Drive
Similar to Dropbox, Google Drive allows you to create a document within the system which means you can create a spreadsheet and share it. Your team can work on the same document without having to download and save lots of versions. Think of it as a live document that your team can collaborate on, in its most up-to-date format.
Google Calendar
I highly recommend Google Calendar as it allows me to share my calendar with my team so that they can see what I am doing, and schedule meetings for me. Each team member also has their own calendar so I can also see their movements. You can also have different calendars for different things – I have a business and a personal calendar that has all my kids’ activities and school commitments in it (so I don’t miss important school dates hopefully!).
Voxer
Instead of sending text messages, you can send a Voxer which is a voice text. Easy for on-the-go as you can just say what you want in a short audio message and send it way faster than you can text.
Skype
Great if you need a face to face meeting, Skype can be a bit temperamental dependant on your internet speed. However you can always do a voice meeting instead of video, or there is a live chat function too.
Hootsuite
Hootsuite allows you to manage all your social networks and schedule messages for future publishing.
Xero
If you aren’t using cloud based accounting software you really need to! At a glance we can see profit and loss, pay wages and bills quickly and easily. We can also take photos of receipts which converts the picture into data giving you quick reconciliation. This software has made our accounting process so much easier.
Facebook & Facebook Messenger
We have a group Facebook page for our team which is a great place for staff to collaborate on ideas. They also load files through the messenger function which enables really fast viewing of things they need urgent approval of (sometimes downloading an email can take longer- this works faster).
There is so much amazing technology that you can use to make your business more efficient and mobile. So if you aren’t using it to your businesses advantage, take some time out and research some and you will be amazed at the difference it makes to your business.
